"Travelers Wash and Wax 25c Special" Hand-Lettered Sign on Hardboard

$100.00

First of all - please, forgive the duct tape. It came to us like this, the tape is in tact, and we feel better about leaving it as-is than disturbing it and potentially making a sticky mess out of it.

A friend of ours (with much more experience than we have) described this piece best: “old, made to look old.” While it’s hard to date the hardboard this folk art sign is painted on, we are guessing it was painted at some point between the 1950s and 1970s, based on the composition of the hardboard, the condition of the paint, and the absolutely terrible beige popcorn finish that makes up the base of this sign.

A neat piece for fans of that pre-war style, it has some edge damage, especially along the bottom, where it looks like it may have been allowed to sit in water at some point. There is also a prominent crack near the middle of the piece (with duct tape bracing the spot from the back), but this and the various other scratches only add to the patinated effect.

Measuring 30”x40”, you may want to frame this piece before hanging it inside your home, but it is ready to hang in the shop as-is!
