1988 Ken Dallison Original, Award-Winning Piece from SILA Conference

$1,000.00

Ken Dallison is one of the auto hobby's most well-known illustrators. Whether you know it or not, you've likely seen one of his pieces if you've ever opened a Road & Track, Car and Driver, or even seen any of his various concours advertisement posters - Dallison has done them all!

In 1988, he represented Road & Track at "Illustrations West 27", a convention and art competition held annually by the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles (SILA). Entering the competition with this piece, depicting a Mercedes-Benz SSK in a pre-war beachside setting, Dallison won a gold certificate of merit for his work, three copies of which are included, along with a Road & Track letterhead envelope that the certificates were stored in.

While the piece is in excellent original condition, with both the artwork and all three copies of its award in presentation-worthy condition, the frame the previous owner chose for this piece (measuring 29.5" x 23") is of low quality, and shows numerous signs of handling and storage wear. The plexiglass window is scratched and scuffed in numerous places, the frame itself is tarnished and misaligned, and there are various spots of further damage - including adhesive residue and scrapes - around the perimeter of the frame. None of these things affect the artwork itself, but it is recommended that the buyer replace this frame with one that does justice to the artwork!
